The 2016 edition of the Mid-Summer Soirée has come and gone. Many thanks to all who joined us on August 16th at Stewart Hall, we hope you enjoyed yourselves and learned a little about our club along the way.
We were thrilled to have well known comedian and humanitarian Joey Elias as our emcee. He was wonderful, engaging with the crowd and offering some well-placed quips; we were lucky to have him. The musical ensemble Marcel A Trio was also terrific, offering live jazz that was sure to make your toe tap.
Kiwanians George Frenette, Wim Laarhoven, Leonard Stern and Ken Ingram introduced attendees to some of our endeavours during impassioned speeches, and we were thrilled to have representatives from some of our main beneficiaries on hand to elaborate on their experiences with our club. Thank you to NOVA’s Marie-France Juneau, WIAIH’s Lyne Charlebois and Club Zone de Lachine's (formerly Lachine Boys and Girls Club) Nadège Lambert-Benoit.
President Ron Della Porta ended the evening by emphasizing the evening's primary goal: we are looking for new members and volunteers who are ready to roll up their sleeves and give back to our community. We invite all attendees, and all other good intentioned West Islanders, to join us for lunch or dinner meeting to learn more.
It goes without saying that this event could not have taken place without the direction of our organizing committee, comprising of Leonard, Christian, George, Wim and Andy. Also indispensable were our volunteers Teri, Barbara, Jocelyn, Flavie, Marika, Lori, Sandra, Mike and Maryssa.
Thanks again to all who attended. We hope to see you again next year on September 13!
